Really good stories don’t tell too much. They tell just enough for someone to imagine them and fill in the rest.
Ask yourself, what is my story. Why did I take this picture. How can I get even more of this feeling into my painting. What is my point of view. How can I set up differences to support that point of view.
Show less to to make a more powerful image. We get more of a sense of things when we reduce and edit.
Avoid the tyranny of the photograph. We’re after the feeling of something, not the pictorial.
Even in subtle paintings, we have to be clear about what it is we want to show.
We can accentuate and tell our stories better by changing the relationships of objects, space and color.
